IHG Hotels & Resorts (IHG), one of the world's leading hotel companies, is moving forward to expand its portfolio of mainstream hotels in Thailand to strengthen its market leadership in this segment.

IHG is globally recognized and renowned, partly due to the success of popular brands like Holiday Inn Hotels & Resorts and Holiday Inn Express, which are favored by both international and domestic travelers seeking value and quality accommodation. Additionally, the newest brand, Garner, demonstrates potential for growth and leadership in the midscale hotel segment.

Currently, the company is focusing on expanding its mainstream hotel growth in Thailand by providing exceptional experiences that guests love, with over 22 hotels already in operation and another 16 hotels under development to meet future traveler demands. This effort is part of the group's goal to double the total number of hotels in Thailand to over 70 in the coming years.

Vivek Balla, Managing Director for Southeast Asia and Korea at IHG, stated, “IHG is proud of its market leadership in the mainstream hotel segment and is excited to continue expanding this brand in Thailand, which is one of our key markets in Southeast Asia.”

“In the first half of 2024, the average revenue per available room in Thailand increased by 13% compared to the previous year, and with the boost in travel demand resulting from the visa-free policy, we anticipate double-digit growth from our key markets in the fourth quarter, with Phuket, Samui, and Bangkok remaining popular destinations for tourists. Domestic travelers continue to favor road trips to various destinations such as Hua Hin, Rayong, Pattaya, and Khao Yai.”

“Travel trends continue to grow, with the number of international tourists expected to increase by 14.8% from now until 2028, with Bangkok projected to grow by 6.5% this year and another 2.1% in 2025. To respond to this demand, we are expanding our portfolio across the country while attracting Millennial and Gen Z travelers who seek value along with memorable experiences.”

More than half of the IHG hotels currently operating in Thailand and nearly 50% of the hotels under development are in the mainstream segment, with upcoming openings including Holiday Inn Express Phayathai and Holiday Inn Express Bangkok Asoke.

Vivek added, “We are committed to continuously expanding our portfolio and eagerly look forward to welcoming guests at Holiday Inn Express Phayathai and Holiday Inn Express Bangkok Asoke, as well as other fantastic locations.”

“Additionally, we see opportunities to introduce IHG's newest brand, Garner, to Thailand, particularly in urban locations and popular resort areas such as Bangkok, Phuket, and Pattaya. Since the brand's launch in August 2023, Garner has rapidly expanded, with 4 hotels already open and another 79 hotels under development worldwide, focusing on guest needs, including convenient locations, comfortable stay experiences, and high-speed Wi-Fi.”

IHG's leading mainstream hotels in Thailand feature many highlights, such as the Holiday Inn with its Open Lobby design and enhanced food and beverage experiences. For Holiday Inn Express, the introduction of the Express Café & Bar offers delicious food and beverage options available 24/7, along with a 'Suite' category suitable for long-stay guests or large groups. Meanwhile, Holiday Inn Resorts creates memorable family experiences with KidSuites, Kids Club, and swimming pools.

Vivek further stated, “IHG understands that developing guest experiences across all our brands is crucial, especially for IHG One Rewards members and many guests who prioritize standards, quality, and reliability in their bookings.”

“IHG is committed to engaging with Thailand by creating the best stay experiences for our guests and enhancing returns for hotel owners.”
